I am conscious of having neither the knowledge nor the wit of my predecessors that enabled them to make Addresses to you which will always be memorable in the annals of our Institute.Some account of progress since Dr. Kaye's important and hopeful address to you in 1928 might, however, be attempted. I say “hopeful” advisedly, because he uses that word in one or other of its modifications no less than eight times in the course of his remarks.
