The essential oils from the bark, leaves, buds, and flowers (full bloom)of Mesua ferreaLinn., Guttiferae, were analyzed by high resolution GC and HRGC/MS. Between 32 and 50 components were identified in the oils from the different plant parts, accounting for 82% to 97% of the total yields. Substantial variations in the relative concentrations of several constituents were noticed. The bark oil was rich in (E)-α-bisabolene (31.3%) and α-selinene (12.2%). The predominant components in the oils of tender and mature leaves were α-copaene (19.3% and 99%) and β-caryophyllene (18.8% and 26.0%). The bud and flower oils also contained α-copaene (28.7% and 20.2%), and in addition germacrene D (190% and 16.1%).
