Potent anti‐LW was detected in the serum of an LW‐negative mother when a direct antiglobulin test of the cord blood of her baby was found to be weakly positive. The baby showed minimal evidence of active hemolytic disease. The antibody decreased in titer over three years and, in contrast to earlier testing, will no longer distinguish Rh‐positive from Rh‐negativ
