Field mills have been used for years to measure atmospheric electric fields. Inexpensive operational amplifiers have made possible an inexpensive and simple version of this device that is suitable for use in the classroom and instructional laboratory. The field mill allows new and exciting electrostatics experiments to be performed, in addition to breathing new life into many standard ones.
