The corneal trauma induced by a recently developed technique for performing electraretinography was evaluated and compared to the trauma observed while using the standard technique for performing the test. The use of a hydrophilic contact lens is evaluated as an alternative to the use of a topical corneal anesthetic before electrode application. Less corneal trauma was observed when the hydrophilic lens was used as a cushion for the electrode.
