AbstractIn the process of planning education services it is essential to have a means of projecting the financial consequences of both current policy and potential new policies. This paper describes some of the financial models covering local authority recurrent and capital expenditure developed by the Department of Education and Science to assist in this planning process. It explains the underlying rationale behind the models, some of the equations used and the performance of the modelling systems in practice.
