Summary:After establishing that a first trimester pregnancy is intrauterine, sonography is used to determine whether the pregnancy has failed or may have an abnormal outcome. Sometimes a definitive diagnosis can be made with a single scan, and other times serial sonography is necessary. This article will review the findings of the abnormal first trimester pregnancy and correlate with laboratory and clinical findings.
