&NA;Delivering health care when a husband and wife both have dementia, while safeguarding the personhood of each, is challenging. Caregiving includes defining resident rights vs. “couple rights,” the appropriateness of sharing a room, and the overall goals for daily living as individuals and as a couple. A Couples' Admission Form, Couples' Care Plan, and a Couples' Bill of Rights are key elements for supporting the holistic wellness of the couple and as unique individuals. Insight and helpful information, gained from family focus groups, is included. An ethics procedure and staff training game enables staff to incorporate sensitivity within decision making. Hopefully, a balance between the “I” and the “we” can be found that upholds both of the residents' well‐being with honor and respect.
