Sixteen samples ofOcimum canumoil were isolated from fresh and dried plant material by steam distillation. Fifty-three components were identified. Two new chemotypes were found; one rich in α-terpineol (48-64%), the other in methyl chavicol-α-terpineol (44-52% and 20-27%). Hitherto, α-terpineol had only been reported in trace amounts inO. canumoil.
