The two dominant sport ideologies of the 20th century areOlympismandprofessionalism. This paper documents the recent articulation between these formerly alternative codes of sport into a single organic hegemony termedprolympism; examines the manifestations and consequences of this articulation; and considers the limitations and opportunities presented by the emergence of a global sport monoculture.
