SUMMARYThere was general agreement that catalase cannot account for the activity of MEOS and that chronic ethanol feeding results in increased rates of ethanol metabolism. There was disagreement however on the mechanism of the latter effect, with some invoking the ADH pathway exclusively in association with a hypermetabolic state, whereas according to others MEOS plays a significant role in the adaptive increase of ethanol metabolism.
