Gastric reduction surgery for treatment of morbid obesity has evolved because of the refractory nature of this hazardous disorder. Vertical banded gastroplasty limits food intake by partitioning of the stomach. Guidelines are given here to ensure an adequate nutritional intake and safe weight loss.
