The concept of“inappropriate”hypertension is a critical part of this article, which also examines the current status of management of the patient with malignant hypertension, outlines the criteria for surgical intervention in high-blood-pressure patients and discusses the role of arteriograhic and other radiologic techniques in making or confirming a definite diagnosis and guiding therapy.
