摘要:

Eight nurses performed full examinations involving speech, posture, gait, dental inspection, physical examination including cardiac auscultation and developmental screening on 2,887 children at school entry. They referred 477 children to two medical officers who considered 186 needed further assessment. Results were compared with those of the previous year when the examinations were done solely by medical officers. Six out of 2,334 children whom 20 nurses examined by cardiac auscultation were confirmed as having organic heart disease. Their findings were compared with those of medical officers who examined the children independently. 32,870 children were examined by 40 nurses in the Service and 8,297 were referred to medical officers. Of this group, 2,730 children were found to have confirmed disabilities and handicaps.
