摘要:

Sexual coercion is a well‐recognized problem among heterosexuals, but it has been understudied in homosexual relationships and could be a contributing factor in risk for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. One hundred ninety‐six gay and bisexual men completed measures of sexual behavior history, sexual coercion experiences, psychological distress, and intentions to resist risk in the future. Results showed that 29% of participants (n= 57) reported being coerced into unwanted sexual contact; 92% of the time coercion involved unprotected anal intercourse. Rates of coercive behaviors paralleled those found among heterosexuals. Although scores for both groups generally fell within normal limits, coerced men were more depressed and had lower self‐esteem than noncoerced men, a finding also reflected among heterosexuals. Men in both groups generally reported intentions to reduce their risk for HIV infection, but men who had been coerced reported a lower likelihood of engaging in risk‐resistance behaviors in the future. Results show that HIV‐prevention interventions for gay and bisexual men should include intensive training in strategies to resist coercive sexual advances. However, further research is needed to identify the interpersonal characteristics of same‐sex relationships that influence sexual coercion.
