5-year survival rates achieved in Kiel University Hospital were respectively 48% (anaplastic astrocytomas), 4% (glioblastomas), 57% (oli-godendrogliomas). Known prognostic factors affecting glioma survival are confirmed. Part-brain RT was used for approximately 33% of the Kiel glioma population with (comparatively) acceptable results. Ten-year-survival for anaplastic astrocytomas and glioblastomas following surgery and radiotherapy is altogether poor and this should bolster our search for alternative therapeutic modalities.
