Several investigators have suggested a relationship between habitual abortion and infection withToxoplasma gondii. In this study patients with repeated spontaneous abortions were studied for the presence of toxoplasma antibody by means of the methylene blue dye test (DT). A group of obstetric patients without abortions were used as controls. Five of 25 patients with abortions had a positive DT, with titers from 1:16 to 1:256. Ten of 47 controls had a positive DT, with titers of 1:16 to 1:512. Thus, the group with abortions had no greater prevalence (20%) of DT antibodies than did controls (21.3%). These data suggest that in this population with habitual abortions there was no evidence to support an etiologic relationship between toxoplasmosis and fetal wastage
