Though ecologically man has been the dominant organism for millenia, his environmental impact has increased tremendously since the industrial revolution With the post‐World War II proliferation of national development plans, this impact has spread throughout the globe A major example is the construction of large‐scale dams that result in the creation of distinctive man‐made lake ecosystems, which contain not just the lake with its terrestrial margin, but also the human population of the lake
