Of all environmental issues, exposure to lead is the most threatening to young children. The key to children's health is prevention, best achieved through community education. When elevated blood lead levels are discovered, interventions are complex and involve multiple health care providers. This article reviews the recommended phases of lead exposure prevention and treatment and describes a team approach that clarifies roles and avoids duplication and omission of care.
