In a sense, all models used in the analysis or synthesis of hydrology data are mathematical models. These models occupy the vast area between physical models that explain phenomena fully and strictly empirical explanations. Between these two extremes, in a the mathematical models dominate, which explains the wide scope of the papers in this symposium.
