摘要:
This paper reports the trial use of a learning module, Developing Awareness of Attitudes, Self, and Cancer Nursing, based on previously identified nurses' needs for continuing education and nurses' perceptions of cancer patients and cancer nurses. The module was designed to meet resistance expressed by staff nurses to become more involved in cancer care, and to improve their perceptions of cancer patients and of themselves as providers of cancer care. Eighteen nurses from nine health care agencies participated in a 6-week small-group course using the module. Results of pre- and post-testing using a Port-a-Punch version of the Activity Vector Analysis, a criterion evaluation test, and subjective evaluation forms showed favorable and significant changes of attitudes toward cancer and cancer care. Responses to the experience were positive, and more widespread use of the module and/or the educational approach seems warranted.
