181 patients, 40 women and 141 men, affected with acute gonorrhea were treated with a single dose of spectinomycine hydrochloride. Recovery rate was 98% for men and 100% for women. Authors estimate that spectinomycine hydrochloride is therefore the drug of choice in the treatment of acute gonorrhea and of great epidemiological interest. Since its treponemicidal effect is not well known, a controlled study of all treated subjects is essential.
