A classification system—based on examination of 189 Notice of Research Projects (NRPs) that clearly pertained to nursing in the Smithsonian Science Information Exchange for fiscal years 1971,1972, and 1973—for a National Nursing Information Center is suggested. Categories for the proposed system are: Number of investigators, fiscal year, supporting agency, recipient organization, regional location of recipient organization, funding level, methodological considerations, sample and sample size. Also included are pertinent nursing data extracted from the NRPs while the system was being investigated.
