Abstract. The generic classification of theOphiongenus‐group is revised following consideration of the basis of the present classificatory system and the results of analyses of fifty‐nine characters in sixty‐nine species representing nineteen nominal genera. Results are presented in the form of an average linkage dendrogram, a nearest neighbour plot, a principal coordinate plot, generic diagnoses and a key to the twelve genera here recognized:Afrophiongen.n.,AgathophionaWestwood,AlophophionCushman,EremotylusFoerster (=BoethoneuraCushman,ChilophionCushman,ChlorophionTownes,ClistoraphaCushman,GenophionFelt syn.n.),HellwigiellaSzépligeti,OphionFabricius (=ApatophionShestakov,ApomesusTownes,MecetronTownes,PlatophionHellén syn.n.),RhopalophionSeyrig,RiekophionGauld,Sclerophiongen.n., Sicophiongen.n.,TrophophionCushman,Xylophi
