The problem of inventory control has received increasing attention over the last 16 to 20 years, which has resulted in a vast amount of literature. Two types of inventory can be distinguished: (1)manufacturinginventories, which contain dependent demand items and are most efficiently controlled by means of Material Requirements Planning (MRP), and (2)distributioninventories, which contain independent demand items and for which Statistical Inventory Control (SIC) techniques are usually employed.
