The pregnancies of 2 patients who had previously been rescued from severe chronic mitral valve disorder by means of a Starr-Edwards prosthesis are detailed, emphasizing the vigilance required to cope with unexpected cardiac failure, the difficulties of continuous anticoagulant therapy, and the urgency of proper antibiotic management. The 22 previously reported pregnancies of women with cardiac valve prostheses —11 aortic and 11 mitral—are also comparatively reviewed and tabulated.
