SUMMARYIt has been suggested that repertory grid technique may be a useful method for assessing self‐concept in people with mental handicaps. This case study, involving a 14‐year‐old girl with Down's syndrome, shows how this method was successfully employed. The resultant grid showed the girl did not see herself as being similar to other children with mental handicaps. It also showed her desire not to be part of this
