The major perioperative complication in cases of liver injury is hœmorrhage. This is usually a technical problem, but it may be seriously aggravated by secondary coagulation defects. As a result, renal shut‐down is an ever‐present possibility. Most of the later complications derive from infection, liver necrosis and respiratory causes.
