This report deals with an innovation in the total care of the severely burned child, utilizing Art and Play Therapy as a projective technique, a diagnostic tool, and a treatment modality. Developmental, physical, and emotional issues were considered in the design of this project. All patients responded positively, demonstrating reduced anxiety, mood elevation, and cooperation with unit staff. Therapist noted child-abuse cases and acted accordingly. Every precaution was taken to minimize the risk of contamination and cross contamination of art and play materials. This was a team effort including all concerned with the welfare of the child.
