AbstractA recoil labeling method for the production of propanol‐2,3‐14C1and other simple alcohols is described. In addition propanol‐2,3‐14C and 2‐methyl propanol‐3‐14C were prepared by the irradiation of methanol solutions of ethylene‐14C and propene‐1‐14C, respectively, in „scavenger”︁ concentration. This latter approach called selectiveradiation labeling is explored as a method for the preparation of specifically labeled compounds by „non‐synthetic”︁ methods. The advantages of selective radiation labeling are : 1. specificity of label; 2. ready control of desired specific activity; 3. efficient use of the labeling isotope in an appropriate precursor; 4. ease of purification and isolation of products; 5. minimum labor.
