Since L-asparaginase was discovered almost a decade ago, numerous studies have been conducted to define its mechanism of action and evaluate its clinical potential. These have shown that while its effect is more limited than had been hoped, the enzyme has a definite place in therapy of leukemia—especially among patients being treated for the first time, and especially in combination regimens to consolidate remission.
