The main mechanisms for the excitation of synchro‐betatron resonances—i.e., dispersion in sextupoles and cavities, transverse fields in cavities, and beam‐beam interaction with a crossing angle—are reviewed. Experimental results and computer simulations are discussed. © 1995American Institute of Physics
