摘要:
ABSTRACTThe Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources began studies on the cage culture of marine species in 1969. Major emphasis has been placed on the culture of pompano (Trachinotus carolinus) because of its high value. Pompano were cultured to a maximum of 284 g average weight in one season. Pompano will have to be overwintered in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Pompano were acclimated to 0.2 ppt salinity. Mullet (Mugil cephalus) stocked with pompano controlled fouling of cages. Facilities for culturing the fish are discussed. Other species successfuly cultured in cages in the marine habitat include striped bass (Morone saxatilis) and rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri).
