SummaryThis article examines the role of the village administrator in an Israeli cooperative village settled by Jewish immigrants. It focusses on his involvement in three sets of relationships: ‐ (1) with the Land Settlement Department of the Jewish Agency which establishes and administers new villages, (2) with the political party to which the village is affiliated, and (3) with the villagers themselves. These sets of relationships impose conflicting pressures on administrators many of whom do Jiot complete their term of office. In this article I analyse the ways in which this particular administrator has coped with the problems inherent in his position and I argue that any analysis of that position must include an examination of the totality of his roles, particularly those that may appear peripheral to the performance of his official duties.RésuméDans cet article on étudie le rôle de ľadministrateur ?un village coopératif israëlien habité par des immigrants juifs. On s'intéresse tout particulièrement à ses rapports avec trois groupes différents:(1) avec le Bureau de Colonisation de ľAgence Juive qui établit les nouveaux villages et les administre;(2) avec le parti politique auquel le village adhère.(3) avec les habitants du village eux‐même; Ces différents rapports sont une source de conflits et de pressions pourles administrateurs qui souvent en réalisent pas leur contract.Dans cet article j'analysc les moyens grâce auxquels ľadministrateur en question a fait face aux problèmes inhérents à sa situation et je soutiens que toute analyse de cettc situation doit comprendre une étude de ses rôles dans leur totalité, en particulier de ceux qui pourraient sembler secondaires par rapport à ses fonctions officielles.ZusammenfassungDieser Artikel untersucht die Rolle des Beraters in einem israelischen Genossenschaftsdorf, das von jüdischen Einwanderern besiedelt wurde. Er konzentiert sich auf die Darstellung des Verhaltnisses eines Beraters zu drei verschiedenen Gruppen:1) Der Ansiedlungsabteilung der jüdischen Agentur, die neue Sied‐lungen gründet und betreut2) Der politischen Partei, der sich das Dorf angeschlossen hat3) Den Dorfbewohnern selbst.Die Beziehung zu den drei Gruppen ruft unterschiedliche Konflikte mit den Beratern hervor, von denen viele ihre Amtszeit vorzeitig abbrechen. In diesem Artikel analysiere ich die Art und Weise, wie der von mir exemplarisch betrachtete Berater diese Konflikte löste.
