Recent publications relevant to the contemporary practice of marital therapy are reviewed.One theme emerges as being of central importance for future developments in the field: the need for specificity for defining the patient, focus and efficacy of the work. Although research findings were generally supportive of the efficacy of a wide range of marital interventions, present research limitations underlined the need for improved methodologies. Recommendations made in the literature are noted.
