AbstractThe extraction characteristics of vanadium (V), with α‐benzoin oxime dissolved in chloroform have been investigated. The most favorable condition for the extraction has been found in thepH range of 1.8 to 2.4 and 2.6 to 3.0, corresponding to sulfate and HCI‐KCI used as a buffer, respectively, but the extracting power was found rather good when sulfate buffer was used.A solution of 2×10−2M α‐benzoin oxime in chloroform was used, and 1×10−4to 2×10−2M of vanadium (V) (added ac NaVO3) were used, and about 88% of vandium was extracted favourably by single extraction, and about 97% by double extractions. The effects of shaking time, concentration of α‐benzoin oxime and diverse ions have also been investigated. Vanadium (V) can be readily extracted in the presence of copper (II), cobalt (II), nickel (II), aluminum (III), iron (III), silver (I), zirconium (IV)
