Pain research has begun to focus on acute pain in clinical settings.Nurse researchers have investigated factors influencing their responses to complaints of pain in adults and children. Medico-legal issues have begun to loom large, especially when court reports are required. Concerns are being expressed about the management of pain for patients with an opiate addiction as well as the use of opiates in benign chronic pain.
