Although a great deal of work was obviously put into the newGuideline for Isolation Precautions in Hospital‘, some inconsistencies and unclear information remain a problem when applying it to practice. The purpose of this commentary is to present a critical review of the controversies surrounding the application of these new guidelines. The critical care nurse, manager, and infection control practitioner must consider their position on these controversies to apply the guidelines to their practice.
