摘要:
AbstractMainstreaming has been heralded as an effective way to improve the academic and social environment of children with learning disabilities. However, questions have been raised concerning the quality of the social interactions for these children in the mainstream classroom. A number of studies have suggested that children with learning disabilities are not accepted by their nonhandicapped peers and are frequently rejected and isolated. The study discussed in this article supports these findings and discusses the importance of social skills interventions to enhance the positive effects of mainstreaming and to improve the peer relations of children with learning disabilities.

摘要:
AbstractSchools must increase parent involvement in their alcohol and other drug prevention programs to maximize the effectiveness of these programs. Evidence of the influence of family factors in drug and alcohol use and abuse is provided as a rationale for this strategy. Background information on parent involvement and an overview of the ways parents are participating in prevention efforts are presented. Effective parent involvement practices and training programs are reviewed, including a summary of key research. Model programs, training curricula, and resources are identified, and the role of the school social worker in augmenting parent involvement is highlighted. The authors conclude that parent involvement in prevention is increasing but has not reached optimal levels.

摘要:
AbstractSchool social workers are frequently faced with school-based violence, family breakup, troubled neighborhoods, and difficulties related to learning. One way for a social worker to help families cope with these disparate stressors is to formulate family-related interventions that address uncertainty in family routines by lending some stability. These interventions, which take the form of family rituals, can be suggested during group work with parents or during family sessions and may augment school-based prevention programs. This article describes what family rituals are and how they have been applied in school social work and identifies typical rituals that school social workers can suggest to families in crisis.

摘要:
AbstractThe majority of research on adolescent parents focuses on the mother in relation to the child, the father, and other support systems. Few articles focus on the experiences of the father, and current research does not address the needs of this population. In addressing the problem of adolescent pregnancy, it is important to recognize these needs and to provide services to adolescent fathers as well as adolescent mothers. This article describes the fathers' component of a teenage parents program at an urban high school. This component includes identifying adolescent fathers, setting up a group counseling program that addresses predominant issues and concerns of adolescent fathers, and integrating the outcomes and evaluation of the program into the school setting.
