摘要:
IntroductionPseudo-polymorphism is defined for crystalline forms of a compound (host)that differ in the species or stoichiometry of the included solvents (guest).1The former is frequently encountered,2while the latter, the existence of two or more crystalline inclusion compoundsfor the same host and guest, is rare in molecular crystals.3Pseudo-polymorphs with different host-to-guest stoichiometry wouldbe realized when the host–guest interactions are flexible enough toallow them to be nearly equi-energetic,4providing a unique opportunity for the investigation of the relation betweeninter-heteromolecular interactions and crystal structures. We have foundthe existence of two solvated crystalline forms of tris(benzo[b]thienyl)methanol (1) with acetonitrile as a guest. In orderto gain insight into differences in molecular interactions, we have undertakenX-ray crystallographic and IR spectroscopic studies on one of these pseudo-polymorphsand revealed that the occurrence of these crystals is associated with a veryweak OH---N&z.tbd;C hydrogen bonding with an unusual bifurcatedpattern.
