AbstractSchool-based health clinics have been promoted by family planning advocates as an important resource for preventing unwanted teen pregnancies. Some opponents, however, contend that the clinics promote promiscuity and abortion. Overlooked in this debate are the substantial benefits in providing primary health care and counseling to an underserved population. This article describes how opponents blocked school-clinic legislation in Washington State, whereas local advocates in Seattle succeeded in establishing clinic services. These case examples illustrate strategies that social workers and others may use to initiate school clinics.

AbstractBecause school-based health and mental health clinics are both comprehensive and accessible, such clinics are an important mode of service delivery to adolescents, and social workers need to be familiar with the organization, management, staffing, and service offerings of such clinics. This article discusses the history of school-based clinics, offers examples of current programs, provides information on the integration of health and social services in a school setting, and describes the roles of social work practitioners in school-based clinics.

摘要:
AbstractStudent mediation programs have excellent potential to assist schools in resolving disputes between students. Mediation also plays a significant role in advancing the philosophy statement of a school by linking theoretical goals to the daily operation of a school. Mediation advances the democratic process and counteracts problems related to student alienation by providing meaningful and practical activity for students. A peer mediation program is a direct application of the principles of cooperative learning. This article discusses these aspects in the development of a mediation program.
