摘要:
AbstractSite-based management is transforming public education in the United States. Under this effort, individual schools of the future will be able to provide a greater variety of educational alternatives and more complex human services. This article provides a general introduction to site-based management and its major concepts. It also identifies several issues that social workers should be aware of as their school districts begin this reform movement, discusses the implications for school social work practice, and suggests ways school social workers can continue to influence education in the new school climates created by this transformation.

摘要:
AbstractTeaching problem-solving skills to students as a way to reduce and prevent conflict is one approach to prevention services. This article describes the functions of the consultation and education department and the community training specialist. In addition, the three levels of the conflict prevention program are described, and the results of the presession and postsession questionnaire are discussed. The social worker, as a community training specialist, is in a position to propose solutions and collaborate in a school setting using this three-dimensional paradigm for training with students, faculty, and family.

AbstractThis is the first study to explore psychosocial risk factors associated with suicide attempts among Latino adolescents living in the United States. The sample consisted of 14 Latino adolescents aged 13 to 19 who attended public schools in Miami and who were selected at random from among those reported to have attempted suicide in the 1988–1989 school year. Data were derived from a questionnaire completed by the school counselors of the attempters and of an equal number of randomly selected Latino nonattempters. Most of the attempters were teenage girls who had used an ingestion method and who previously had thought of threatened, or attempted suicide. They had experienced significantly more family, school, psychiatric, and migration and acculturation problems than did the nonattempters. Implications for research, suicide prevention, and intervention are discussed.
