Pupils involved in technology usually use systems kits to model electronic systems. But how can they ‘translate’ their system kit model into a final circuit which they can retain and incorporate into a project? Normally, they need to find the circuit diagram of each subsystem and then design a printed circuit board (PCB). This process is demanding, time consuming and error prone.

Above the pub where we live, we have many personal and electrical items which need to be protected and although we have an alarm system downstairs, upstairs is unprotected. Since we have lived at this location, our pub has been broken into twice, but luckily the attempts were unsuccessful. In case of ‘third time lucky’ I decided to design an alarm system to protect upstairs.

摘要:
My first ‘computer’ in 1977, was the SC/MP Microprocessor Introkitfrom National Semiconductor (UK) Ltd., which introduced me to the delights of machine-code programming. By 1979, 1 and many others had access to the Commodore PET and Apple microcomputers and we were able to apply machine-code programming to fast data capture and animation, producing, for example, simulations of wave and molecular motion. This experience was soon followed by the AIM microcomputer, which had advanced (sic!) refinements such as cassette-tape storage, paper printout, and Assembly Language. Many of us saw machine-code programming as the advent of a new era inelectronics.

Do you always take notice when you hear an emergency vehicle siren? Do you keep a lookout for the source, ready to pull into the side of the road if necessary? It is vitally important and often a matter of life and death that the emergency services reach the scene of an incident within the first couple of minutes. To do this in today's traffic it is obviously very important to have a good siren.

摘要:
Veritas is an electronic educational game which could also be inexpensively developed for use by the blind. Simple but effective electronics have been used to keep the cost of manufacture low. Veritas covers the age groups of 5–9, 10–13 and 14–16 by using different question packs. It is easy to use, is colour codecl for use by young children and could be used in primary schools as a teaching aid.

摘要:
Before I started my GCSE technology project I had to make a printed circuit board (PCB). This was not easy as the layout of the tracks has to be designed in reverse, also, the only way of drilling holes in line was to use a hole template. The other major problem encountered was mistakes, if there is a mistake on the artwork the transfers and drafting tape have to be carefully removed. If the mistake is too big the whole of the artwork will have to be remade. There is no package on the market to do this job.
