摘要:
Thanasimus undatulusSay is a common predator of the mountain pine beetle,Dendroctonus ponderosaeHopkins, in lodgepole pine,Pinus contortaDouglas, according to DeLeon (1934), who listed it asT. dubius(F.).T. undatuluswas reported also as being a predator of the spruce beetle,D. rufipennis(Kirby), and associated scolytids in Engelmann spruce,Picea engelmanniiParry (Knight 1961); a predator of the fir engraver,Scolytus ventralisLeConte, inAbiesspecies (Struble 1957); an occasional predator oflpsspecies in lodgepole pine logging slash (Reid 1957); and of the Douglas fir beetle,D. pseudotsugaeHopkins, in Douglas-fir,Pseudotsuga menziesii(Mirb.) Franco (Cowan and Nagel 1965). The present study was done to obtain information on prey consumption and rate of development ofT. undatulusto appraise more realistically the effect of this predator on populations of the mountain pine beetle in lodgepole pine.

摘要:
The male boll weevil,Anthonomus grandisBoheman, after feeding on cotton, produces a pheromone that attracts both sexes of weevils (Cross and Mitchell 1966, Keller et al. 1954, Bradley et al. 1968). Also, boll weevils respond to spectral wavelengths from 315 to 665 nm, with response peaking between 490 and 515 nm (Hollingsworth et al. 1964). Similarly, Taft et al. (1969) found that overwintered weevils responded to painted traps and plants which reflected most strongly from 500 to 550 nm.

摘要:
BothZetzellia mali(Ewing) andAgistemus fleschneriSummers are predators of the European red mite,Panonychus ulmi(Koch).Z. malihas been observed in the Ohio State University experimental orchard at Carroll since integrated control studies began there in 1966. I did not know thatA. fleschneriwas also present in the orchard until September 1970, when it was collected from the apple cultivar, ‘Red Delicious.’ It was not present at that time on nearby ‘Jonathan’ trees. (The 2 mite species, resembling one another, were determined by D. E. Johnston, Department of Entomology, Ohio State University.)

摘要:
Studies of the bacterial flora of insects have proliferated in recent years, largely because of interest in locating potentially pathogenic organisms for insect control. In addition, insects of potential public health importance have been the subjects of continuing intensive investigation, especially in those cases in which the insect is known to be a vector or intermediate host of an animal parasite.

摘要:
Buenoa scimitraBare is a common backswimmer in freshwater pools in Mexico and southern United States (Truxal 1953). Bare (1926) gave information on life history. BecauseB. scimitrapreys upon mosquito larvae, information on its culture and habits is relevant to its possible use as a biological control of mosquitoes.
