摘要:
Following from the research of Logan and Schneider, metropolitan determinants of the persistence/change in suburban socioeconomic status (3 measures), economic (2 measures), age and racial characteristics are examined for the 45 largest Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Suburban characteristics were found to change and the determinants of change were found to vary across suburban characteristics. Central city age, fringe size, fringe black and income segregation-and central city job concentration were found to be significant determinants of change/persistence in one or more of the seven suburban characteristics.

摘要:
Urbanization as conventionally measured by demographers is urban population divided by total population. By this criterion rich nations are considerably more urban than poor nations. The purpose of this paper is to compare rich and poor nations on urbanization of the nonfarm population (which is, I argue, a better indicator of the urban/rural distribution of those who are eligible to live in cities) By this criterion rich nations and poor nations are roughly equivalent on urbanization.

摘要:
A measure of ecological segregation based on the spatial juxtaposition of separate household units is employed to assess the adequacy of aggregate segregation measures. An analysis of ethnic household units in an urban tract in Israel shows that ethnic spatial clusters at the neighborhood and micro-neighborhood level do not match—and in some cases deviate radically—from the residential pattern depicted by aggregate measures. Implications are discussed concluding that nonspatial measures risk inaccuracy in depicting residential patterns and cannot be employed unequivocally without the danger of misleading or distorted results.
