AbstractThe increasing numbers of Asian immigrant and refugee children adapt well in general to American public schools. However, certain characteristics are correlated with problems. By becoming aware of these potentially troublesome characteristics, school social workers will be able to offer more effective services to these populations.

AbstractSince the early 1970s, the number of fathers raising children alone because of divorce or separation has grown by 148 percent. A survey of 1,136 such fathers identifies difficulties they and their children face and considers the practice implications for school social workers.

AbstractThe role of the school social worker is wide-ranging, and it has been interpreted differently at different times and places. The present study compares perceptions of this role held by superintendents and social workers in an area offering a “high density” of services. The authors found agreement on the concept of a broad and varied role for school practitioners.
