AbstractAlthough most school social workers are skilled in assessing students, families, and some factors related to schools, they are generally less skilled in analyzing the school itself as an organization. An ability to analyze the organization is important because it can help practitioners identify students at risk and to change school conditions that contribute to pupils' problems.

AbstractThe “You've Got a Friend, Charlie Brown” program uses “Peanuts” cartoon strip characters to promote student-initiated referrals to the social worker in an elementary school. A multiple-baseline evaluation of the program revealed considerable success in two out of three classes. Implications of the findings for setting up similar programs are discussed.
