AbstractA landmark study published in 1969 recommended that school social workers change their focus from casework to an emphasis on the school as part of a larger social system and on institutional change. Fourteen years later, school social workers were still using casework but were tending to combine it with broader-focused practice approaches.

AbstractA school social work study demonstrated the effectiveness of two small-group intervention models designed to enhance children's social competence in classroom settings. The two interventions were training in social skills and training in interpersonal cognitive problem solving. The latter appeared to be somewhat more effective, contrary to one of the hypotheses that preceded the study.
