摘要:
AbstractMany embrace the goal of school, family, and community working together to promote the social competence of children and youth. The expectation that such collaboration would be effective has faltered on the demands for community control and for decentralization. The authors argue that the social work profession can help revitalize and realize this critical goal. A review of the literature outlines the dynamic and changing role and structure of schools in response to contemporary societal conditions. The authors delineate the central features of an ecological perspective and a competence orientation to social work in the school setting and describe school social work practice that promotes the partnership of schools, families, and communities.

摘要:
AbstractSchools inevitably reflect the events and trends in society at large. Therefore, school social workers must demonstrate the relevance of their work to the evolving trends in education that result from influences of the social environment. Current and future implications of specific environmental factors are discussed.

摘要:
AbstractThe process approach to social work continues to offer a sound structure for developing social work services and for defining the role of school social workers in providing those services. The career of one school social worker in a suburban school district during the past two decades documents that the role evolves in interaction with the administrative, legislative, funding, and other environmental influences in the community.

摘要:
AbstractFamilies and society are experiencing enormous changes. Increased stress affects everyone. Stress no longer is restricted to limited sectors of the population, though it affects populations differently. Families, schools, and community agencies can no longer tolerate being worlds apart. The authors propose steps toward creation and institutionalization of partnerships among families, schools, and communities, all of which face similar issues. School social workers can be catalysts and facilitators of the response to the crisis.

摘要:
AbstractIssues of power, powerlessness, and empowerment in schools are discussed from the perspective of the school as a social and a physical environment. Ecological concepts and professional interpersonal interactions are offered as the empowering tools social workers use in helping schools achieve educational and socialization objectives.
